Weekend in Athens GA

Assalamualaikum

Mari kita sambung cerita America aku. Cerita kali nie berlaku pada bulan November tahun lepas. I was spent my weekend at my American friend's house. His name is Alex and he is a very very very very nice person. They also call him Jesus because of that. Plus, he got that Jesus's look (Read : Long hair).

Aku actually masa tu dah lama sangat tak keluar dari Milledgeville tu, so bila Takafumi ajak aku join pergi rumah Alex nie, aku pon tanpa fikir dua tiga kali, aku terus setuju. Akhirnya ada orang nak bawa aku keluar dari Milledgeville setelah sekian lama terperuk dekat situ.

I went to Athens with my Japanese friends. Takafumi, Eri and Shiori.

This is his house

Aku pergi sana Jumaat malam, 14 November 2014. It was about 20 minutes journey from our campus to Alex's house. Sampai-sampai je, terus dihidangkan makanan. Sebelum datang sini, Alex tanya aku pasal makanan, what food i can eat and what food i can't eat. That is very thoughtful of him. Aku cukup terharu bila kawan-kawan aku kat sana bertanya soal makan minum aku.

Her mother bought me a box of shrimps with sambal.

Lagi satu aku perasan orang sana, dorang suka buat kek, roti, cookies and apa-apa lah jenis pastri. Memang sedap-sedap hasilnya. Even mentega pon dorang buat sendiri tau.

Siap buat muffin lagi okay. Buat sendiri tau, bukan beli. The taste of the muffin was just awesome ! Waffle pon buat sendiri. Rajin benar suri rumah dekat negara omputih nie prepare semua benda nie untuk sarapan.

Forgot to mention, the night we arrived there, the temperature was so low. So it was cold. Sangat-sangat sejuk. Sakit tangan dengan pipi ku. Tak tahan. Malam tu kami lepak-lepak dekat bangsal dia dan nyalakan api dekat chimney untuk memanaskan badan dekat situ.

Alex's father shared his story and experience in army to us. He still keeps everything that he has during high school and during in army including the hat that Takafumi was wearing.

We did not plan to stay long there, so the next morning, we went to Athens. It was about one and half hour journey from his house. We went to his brother's house, Nick.

Eri's first experience driving in the US

Nick is a carpenter. His works are displayed at this one gallery where we stopped by somewhere in Georgia. I can't remember the name of the place. I think we were already in Athens at that time, i don't know. But what can i say, his art works were amazing.

There were a lot of art works done by many artists were displayed here. Bukan sekadar pameran je tau, pengunjung boleh beli. But it's quite pricey. Hasil seni kan, jadinya normal lah kalau mahal.

In our way back from this place to Nick's house, Alex stopped us at a cotton field. Kebetulan lalu situ so dia nak tunjuk lah cotton field nie dekat kitorang. Actually aku dah pernah nampak dah cotton field sebelum nie masa aku pergi rumah someone kat sana. But she did not stop her car, she just showed me from afar. With Alex, i got the chance touching the cotton.

In Malaysia, we do have cotton trees. But our cotton trees are very scary and creepy. The tress are tall and old people always told the kids that every cotton trees got hantu jembalang lives in there. That explains why kids are very scared of cotton trees.

In America, the tress are very cute in size. During the time we were there, they harvested the cotton already, so we just got to see the leftover je. But it was nice experience though. We can't stay there longer since there were two or three dogs barking unstoppable. Aiyoo, It was quite scary for me coz i scared of dogs.

We arrived at Nick's house shortly after that. It is located near to Athens downtown. His house is a tree house. It's a pretty small house but it has everything. The house has one bathroom and toilet, a kitchen that attached with the bedroom, got a place to sit and watch tv. It is a very nice house and it suits for a single person to live there. I love it !

Eri and Taka tried holding the gun. It was heavy kot

Surprisingly, Nick has lot of guns in his house. One thing you need to know, America allows the citizens to own gun/guns even without having specific document. They can own gun as long as the person does not have any criminal records. Aiyooo, they even sell gun in Walmart kot. Siap buat sales lagi tau. Pistol murah pistol murah, harga mampu milik.

In the afternoon, we walked to the downtown and explored Athens. It is such a nice place. There is one big university here in Athens, it is University of Georgia (UGA). Every Saturday night, they have a football game at the stadium. So the downtown will turn into a mess. I will explained more about this later, keep on reading.

If i say football, it means rugby tau, bukan bola sepak. Bola sepak dekat America they call it soccer. So football is rugby. Football in America is very famous. They are very into that. And UGA's mascot for their football team is a bull dog. So there are so many dog replicas in Athens.

First and foremost, we were searching for a place to eat. We were starving at that time.

Tips for Muslims, if you cannot find a place that prepares halal food, you go for Indian restaurant. They usually serve halal food. Usually their lamb and meat are halal. But not the chicken. In certain places only you can find halal chicken.

I forgot the name of my dish. It was lamb something.
Very delicious !! It comes with rice and naan bread

The restaurant has combo meal for two people. Since we are all 5 people, so they took the combo meal. The combo meal is quite cheap compared to ala carte one. I don't have partner to share the combo meal with, so i ordered it ala carte. The combo are included with an appetizer so i was the only person who don't get any appetizer since i ordered it ala carte.

And guess what happened ?

The waitress gave me free appetizer. Mulanya aku cakap saya tak order benda nie, then dia cakap since semua orang ada appetizer, so dia tak nak aku sorang tak ada appetizer. Da pon bagi aku satu appetizer. Ya Allah, terharu gila. Rezeki aku masa tu. Tak tahu nak berterima kasih macam mana dekat orang tu. Syukur sangat-sangat.

Vegetarian appetizer

And i forgot the name of the restaurant. Goshhhh ! I also forgot to take picture of the signboard.

Were were finally arrived in UGA. It is a very big university compared to ours. At this time, the place started to pack with people. We explored UGA, went to the faculties, the buildings, the stadium and went to the university's souvenir shop. It was crowded.

To enter the stadium, you need to buy the ticket. We didn't buy the ticket, it was sold out very fast. Lagipun, tak nak aku tengok game sejuk-sejuk macam tu. Baik tidur dalam bilik. Tiket dia dah lah mahal. Memang tak larr.

Once finished touring UGA, we went back to Nick's house and suddenly Alex got sick on that night. Very very sick. Poor him. We only watch the game on tv at neighbour's house.

Once the game ended, Nick decided to take us to the downtown to see the crazy of Athens on game night. It was very crazy. Drunk people were everywhere. Sesak habis weyh. Bau tak payah cakap lah, memang semua bau alcohol. Masa nie semua tengah celebrate, maklumlah menang.

Nak minum coffee pon penuh cabaran tau malam tu. Kena tukar berapa kedai, end up tak dapat pon minum coffee. Terus patah balik jalan kaki balik rumah. Walaupon dekat, tapi tak dekat jugak lah. Ada lah dalam 20 minit berjalan kaki. Dah lah sejuk gila. Perghhh. Kesimpulannya kami tidur.

The next morning, Alex was still sick. Nick called his parents to pick us up. Before heading home, we stopped by at a barn. Alex's parents have a horse name Volcan. The horse was being taken care by the people who works there.

Volcan is a very beautiful horse and very tame too =)

We also got the chance to feed the horse with carrots. It was an awesome experience. You may watche me feeding the horse in the video down below. Don't laugh.

I know you're laughing. Fine.

Alex's father drove us back to Milledgeville that evening. A well spent weekend with Alex's family. They are very nice people. Thank you for having me. Terima kasih sebab bawak aku keluar dari Milledgeville. God bless y'all.

That was it, my weekend story in Athens. Banyaklah cerita dekat Athens nie aku terpaksa tapis. Nak lebih terperinci boleh jumpa saya personally. Kbai.
